Where farmers sell to other farmers
Fresh veggies and fast service. Honestly.
If you think all produce stands and farmer’s markets belong in the “bean there, grown that” category, think again.
Introducing Tyler and Summer Papple. The couple operates Papple’s Garden Centre and Produce Stand in Seaforth, Ontario much in the same unique way it began nearly 20 years ago—set up on Grandfather’s front lawn. Customers help themselves to a wide assortment of seasonal vegetables and flowers. And here’s a twist—payments are based on the honour system. Customers serve themselves and pay using cash, credit card and debit card.
Although Summer claims they haven’t figured out the secret to their success yet, she thinks honesty is more than a virtue—it’s a great way to make a living. “Local people really appreciate it. Many from out of town stop on the way out to the cottage for their groceries and plants, or on their way back to the city. Self-service means it’s quick for them and lets us spend more time in the fields and greenhouses.”
