Mom’s Dutch Meat Balls from Gramma Bep's Gourmet Foods Inc.
1 lb ground beef
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
5 slices of white bread
1 tsp Gramma Bep’s Steak Spice
2 medium eggs
½ tsp nutmeg
In a large bowl place the ground beef, push it to the side of the bowl and add the eggs, salt, nutmeg, pepper and Gramma Bep’s Steak Spice. Run the slices of bread under a warm water tap and squeeze out most of the water. Add them to the mixture in the bowl and mix well. Form this into 8 large hamburger balls and fry them in 5 tbsp of margarine in a large frying pan. Fry each side for about 15 minutes and then add 1 ½ cups of water to the hamburgers and let simmer for 20 – 30 minutes. These are wonderful the next day served cold or sliced on a fresh bun for lunch.
