Gobble up these facts

The average Canadian ate 4.1 kilograms of turkey in 2004. With that amount, Canada ranks fifth in the world in turkey consumption (Israel leads the pack with 21 kilograms per person.) During Christmas 2004, Canadians bought 3.9 million whole turkeys – that’s 42 per cent of all whole turkeys sold in 2004. Thanksgiving and Christmas together account for 74 per cent of annual whole turkey sales. All this yummy gobble gobble is supplied by some very busy 538 turkey farmers across Canada who keep up with the 132 million kilograms of turkey Canadians want each year and the 21 million kilograms they export to other countries (2004 statistics). So, when you have a moment…give those turkey farmers some applause, will ya?
